Bahia El Pescador
On May 10 we arrived in Bahia El Pescador around noon after a few hours of motor navigation. Indeed, our front sail halyard having been cut a few days previously, we are waiting for more favorable conditions to climb to the top of the mast in order to replace it.
The bay is sublime with a huge white sand beach to the west and a small island to the east sheltering hundreds of birds. The anchorage is ideal, with a depth between 15 and 20 feet over several hundred meters.
Barely anchored, we prepare the dinghy and head towards the small island to the east. A rapid ascent of 50 meters takes us to the top of the island from where the view of the bay is magnificent. Hundreds of pelicans and seagulls welcome us, Chihiro doesn’t know where to turn. Back at the boat, conditions are extremely calm with little to no waves.
The next day, there are seven of us sailboats in the bay, most of the people we meet are also going to Puerto Peñasco for the end of the season. We organize a campfire evening on the beach, where everyone brings a dish to share. We all have a great time together. The highlight of the evening, the bioluminescence is of incredible intensity. Chihiro is surrounded by a fluorescent green halo and runs in the water in all directions, not understanding what is happening to her.
On May 13 we weigh anchor to go to Bahia El Alacran, a few NM south of El Pescador to spend the day there and observe the sea lions. We anchor in the bay and go by dinghy towards a small rocky island where hundreds of sea lions live. The spectacle is magical. As we approach, numerous sea lions dive and swim around and below our dinghy. The biggest ones stay on the rocks to keep watch, uttering threatening growls inviting us not to get too close. Mid-afternoon we return to anchor in Bahia El Pescador where we will spend a few more days and enjoy the beach. The water is quite cold, around 20 C but the children and Chihiro enjoy it every day.
On May 16 we leave Bahia El Pescador towards Don Juan about 5 NM to the north.
