Isla Coronados
April 19th 2024
We leave Isla Carmen towards Isla Coronado located about 10 NM to the North. Once again the absence of wind forces us to sail by motor.
The island is located at point 26°6.626´N 111°17.011’W
We arrive in the western part of Isla Coronados around 5:30 p.m., a few boats are already anchored but the bay is so wide that we easily find a location. The sunset is as good as other evenings, and announces a very calm night.
The next day, after a few hours of school, we leave by dinghy to explore the island in the northern part of the bay. Equipped with their mask, fins and snorkel, Marjolaine, Victor and Paul set off to explore the seabed near a rock formation. The marine life is very rich there, with numerous rays, sea urchins, starfish and multicolored fish.
Back at the boat we observe huge black spots under the surface of the water which are moving slowly. We can also see these spots very clearly on the aerial photos taken with the drone. Our friend Rob, also intrigued, decides to dive to understand where these spots come from, they are in fact extremely dense schools of fish. The next day, the presence of feasting pelicans will confirm this.
Seen from the sky, the island is sublime, the color of the water is worthy of the Pacific atolls. The terrain is moderate, with a hill of around 200 meters in the center that we would have liked to climb to enjoy the view. Unfortunately, the next morning it was already too hot, we changed our minds and decided to take the road north towards San Juanico.
