Marina Costa Baja – La Paz
On March 12 we left the Marina Costa Baja after having stayed there for a week. This is the first marina we have visited in Baja California.
Marina access and check-in
The entrance to the marina is located at the entrance to the channel leading to La Paz, at point 24°12.972’N 110°18.569’W. Access being relatively narrow, it is best to communicate with the marina on channel 16 to announce your arrival. The marina is made up of two distinct sections, the first part is made up of the docks for large yachts, the fuel dock and the marina office. The second part is at the end of a small channel and includes the regular docks. All reservation and registration procedures are done by email with the marina. Once the contract is signed, you will be assigned a location. Please note that in the case of a national zarpe, all the paperwork for check-out is managed directly at the office, which avoids having to go to the harbor master’s office.
You can consult the official website of the marina: marinacostabaja.com
The installations
The marina has 250 slips for boats ranging from 30 to 225 feet. Water and electricity are available at each location and are billed on consumption.
Slips prices vary depending on the season and length of stay. As an indication, for a 50’ monohull the monthly rate is 34.5USD per foot. Paid wifi access is available from the docks and marina facilities.
The marina unfortunately does not have a swimming pool or special activities for children, a mini market with basic products, a candle shop. Several restaurants are available but the prices relatively high.
Transportation
The marina is located about ten kilometers from La Paz. To get there, the marina offers a fairly practical free shuttle service, there are a few departures every day, the times are indicated on the marina website. We also used the Didi application which is very practical. Note that a bus passes in front of the marina and also goes to La Paz, we did not use it so we do not have details on prices.
The stores
The only grocery stores available near the marina are in La Paz, there are grocery stores like Soriana, Walmart and a Home Depot.
Our opinion
Overall the marina is very beautiful, but may not be a good choice for a family since there are no activities. The prices charged are also very high but reflect the rest of the prices in Baja California which remain much more expensive than on the continent. However, we liked our stay, the staff is very courteous and competent.
